BORN DRIFFIELD 1882. ELDEST SON OF ELIZA JANE WAITES & GEORGE WILLIAM THOMPSON RANSOM, OF, 46, MIDDLETON STREET (1911 CENSUS) AND 8, PARK AVENUE, PERRY STREET, HULL. ONE OF TWELVE CHILDREN. HIS FATHER DIED IN 1911. ONE OF SIX BROTHERS SERVING IN FRANCE. TWO WERE KILLED.

HE MARRIED LAURA MATILDA POCOCK, IN SEVEN OAKS KENT IN JULY 1912. THEY HAD ONE SON, STANLEY WILLIAM RANSOM, BORN IN 1914. THEY LIVED AT UPPER PORTSLADE, SUSSEX.

WILLIAM ENLISTED IN BRIGHTON, JOINING THE THE QUEENS ROYAL WEST SUSSEX REGIMENT. HE DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 22/04/1917, AGED 34. HE IS BURRIED ON THE SOMME.

HIS NAME IS REMEMBERED ON HULL’S ST MATTHEWS CHURCH WW1 MEMORIAL, BOULEVARD, HULL

HIS BROTHER, PRIVATE, ERNEST RANSOM, 10TH DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY, WAS KILLED IN ACTION, AT YPRES, ON 23/08/1917, AGED 32.
