BORN GRIMSBY 1895.  SON OF THOMAS SAMUEL RAYTON (1870-1938), THE PILOT, OF GRIMSBY AND ALICE LAX (1873-1935).

SERVED AS THIRD ENGINEER, AND AS STEAM TRAWLER, DECKHAND, ON THE ROYAL NAVY TRANSPORT, “REPTON”. THIS WAS  TORPEDOED, IN THE MEDITERANEAN, ON 07/05/1917.

HE MARRIED IN 1917. HUSBAND OF ELLEN RAYTON, OF 133, SOMERSET STREET, HULL.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 14/06/1917.  HE LEFT £110 IN HIS WILL TO HIS WIDOW, ELLEN, AT 133, SOMERSET STREET, HULL (PROBATE ADDRESS).

HE IS COMMEMORATED AT ST JOHN THE BAPTIST CHURCH, NEWINGTON, HULL.

SS Repton, built by C. S. Swan & Hunter, Newcastle in 1894 and owned at the time of her loss by Austin Friars Steam Shipping Co. Ltd -Galbraith, Pembroke & Co.,(Managers Houlder, Middleton & Co. Ltd), London, was a British steamer of 2881 tons. On May 7th, 1917, Repton, on a voyage from Hull to Mudros with a cargo of coal, was sunk by the German submarine UB-43 (Horst Obermüller), 45 miles SSE of Cape Matapan. 3 persons were lost.
