BORN HULL 1891. ELDEST SON OF EDWARD ALBERT REED (1863-1941) & MARTHA KIRBY (1869-1950). ONE OF NINE CHILDREN. HE HAD SIX SISTERS AND TWO BROTHERS. LIVING AT 25, HUME STREET, HULL (HDM 27/04/1917 ADDRESS). EMPLOYED AS A SHIP’S FIREMAN.

HE MARRIED AT HULL, ON 25/03/1916. HIS WIFE, EDITH LUCAS, LIVED AT 191 DANSOM LANE, HULL.

HE HAD SERVED IN THE MERCANTILE MARINE FOR OVER EIGHT YEARS AND WAS LOST IN ACTION IN THE NORTH SEA, ON 27/04/1915, AGED  24 YEARS. HE HAD ONLY BEEN MARRIED FOR TWO WEEKS, ON THE 25TH MARCH. COMMEMORATED AT THE PLYMOUTH NAVAL MEMORIAL, DEVON, UK

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH ON 14TH JUNE 1916. *

NOTE: HIS NAME IS SPELT AS ALBERT REED IN HULL’S HOLY TRINITY REGISTER, BUT AS ALFRED REED IN CWGC RECORDS. HIS NAME IS LISTED ON THE DANSOM LANE & WILMINGTON ROLL’S OF HONOUR AND HE IS COMMEMORATED ON PLYMOUTH NAVAL MEMORIAL. HIS DEATH WAS AGAIN REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 27/04/1917, BY HIS WIDOW, SISTERS, MINNIE, GERTY, LILY AND GEORGE.

HIS BROTHER GEORGE REED ALSO SERVED AT SEA. HIS BROTHER IN LAW, ALFRED, SERVED IN SALONIKA (HDM 29/04/1918).
