BORN HULL 1884. SON OF WILLIAM AND LAVINIA RHODES. HE WAS A FARM LABOURER AND ENLISTED IN HULL ON 30/11/1904. HE WAS STILL SERVING AS A REGULAR SOLDIER WITH THE 2ND EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT IN 1911. HE WENT TO FRANCE WITH THE BRITISH EXPEDITIONARY FORCE. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION WITH THE 1ST EYR, ON 3RD NOVEMBER 1914, AGED 29. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS SISTER MRS CHRISTINA PEARCE. HE IS BURIED AT RATION FARM MILITARY CEMETERY, LA CHAPELLE-D’ARMENTIERES.
HE IS REPORTED KILLED ON THE SYKES STREET ROLL OF HONOUR (Hull Daily Mail 09 October 1916).
