Born Sproatley, 1890. Only Son of Robert Hunton Riley (1858-1926) and Rosa Rebecca Saxe (1863-1934).  Son of a Carpenter. He had one sister, May Rebecca Riley.

Husband of Edith Mary Dann (1890-1971) of 2089, 48th Avenue West, Vancouver, Canada. Born Swine (as SDGW) or Sproatley (as 1901 census) and enlisted Hull, Yorkshire, and army resident Windsor, Berkshire.

A regular soldier, prior to WW1, serving as Private 8789. 2nd Battalion, Coldstream Guards (1911 Census). Died of wounds 24th December 1914, aged 24 years. His army effects were left to his widow Edith, who he married at Windsor in 1914.

He is commemorated Le Touret Memorial. Panel 2 and 3. Remembered on the Sproatley Village Memorial, where 61 men served and 11 died in WW1 and the Swine Roll of Honour where 11 men died.
