BORN HESSLE 10/06/1892. LIVED IN HULL. SON OF JOHN ALFRED ROBINSON (1861-1929) & ADA NICHOLSON (1867-1950), OF 18, SALISBURY STREET, HESSLE. HE HAD THREE BROTHERS. WORKED AS A BUS CONDUCTOR (1911 CENSUS) AND BRICKMAKER. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 7 INCHES TALL, 129 LBS WEIGHT, 36-38 INCH CHEST, BLUE EYES, FAIR COMPLEXION.

HE MARRIED HANNAH BACON, AT HULL, ON 03/05/1915. SHE CAME FROM ROTHERHAM AND LIVED AT 10, WELLSTED STREET, HULL AND 48, EDWARD STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS)

HE ENLISTED IN THE HULL PALS WITH HIS BROTHER, CHARLES OLIVER ROBINSON, ON 14/09/1914. THEY BOTH TRAINED AT DALTON HOLME, RIPON AND SALSIBURY CAMPS AND SERVED TOGETHER WITH THE 12TH EYR IN EGYPT AND FRANCE. THEY WERE KILLED ON THE SAME DAY AT SERRE, ON 13/11/1916. HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY FOR 2 YEARS AND 21 DAYS. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW HANNAH. HE HAD DIED ON THEIR FIRST WEDDING ANNIVERSAY. HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON THE HESSLE ROLL OF HONOUR, ALL SAINTS PARISH CHURCH.
Hull Pals Memorial Post. PRIVATE ERNEST VICTOR ROBINSON 12/148. Born July 1892, Ernest was the third of four sons to John and Ada Robinson of 18 Salisbury Street, Hessle. He had worked as both a Bus Conductor and a Brickmaker before the war but joined the queue to enlist at Hull City Hall on 14th September 1914 joining the 12th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment, ‘The Sportsmen’, 3rd Hull Pals. Ernest married Hannah Bacon on 2nd May 1915 at St Barnabas Church but their time together was short as the Pals shipped for Egypt before Christmas. Arriving in France early in March 1916 Ernest was part of the final action of the disastrous Somme campaign. The 12th and 13th Battalions attacked German positions at Serre at 5.45am on 13th November 1916 and well over 200 men didn’t return. Ernest is buried in Euston Road Cemetery; he was 24 years old.
