I am grateful to Glenn Rosindale Smith, who sent the following information on 17/01/2015:
Herbert Rosindale was my maternal great uncle. He was serving in the 1/4th Battalion Duke of Wellingtons (West Riding) Regiment when he was killed by machine gun fire from a German Tank south of Avesnes=le-Sec. This information can be found in “The History of The 1/4th Battalion Duke of Wellingtons (West Riding) Regiment” Capt. P.G.Bales, published 1920, re-printed by Naval & Military Press.
His younger brother Frederick served in the RAOC and survived the war, as did a second brother Charles who was a ship’s engineer in the Merchant Navy.
I have been looking for photos of Herbert as the family has none. If you know of the location of any, the information would be appreciated. Glenn Rosindale Smith [Hammer.tongs@bigpond.com] Thank You also to Glenn for supplying the photographs, sent on 08/04/2019.
