Born Hull, 1882. Son of Edward and Sarah Royal. Son of a Green Grocer. He had an elder brother Thomas and two sisters, Kate and Hannah.
Married at Hull, in 1903. Husband of Ellen Watson Cox, of 17, Norton Terrace, Waterloo Street, Hull (1911 Census) and 14, Rodney Street, Hull (war pension address). They had two children, Alice and George. He was a Timber worker.
He enlisted in Hull. Formerly 13th Heavy Battery and Private, 467, East Yorkshire Regiment. Transferred to the 1st Garrison Battalion, Yorkshire Hussars (Alexandra, Princes of Wales’ Own). He died of heatstroke, in India, on 10/07/1918, aged 36.
He is buried in modern day Pakistan. His army effects were left to his widow, Ellen Watson Royal.
