BORN HULL 1896. SON OF EDWARD ROYDHOUSE (1857-1933) AND CATHERINE ANN WELBURN (1861-1922), OF 4 CROMWELL TERRACE, CROMWELL STREET, HULL (ARMY ADDRESS). HE HAD THREE BROTHERS AND ONE SISTER. WORKED AS A TELEPHONE FAULT CLERK. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 6 INCHES TALL, 33 INCH CHEST, 112 LBS WEIGHT, “FAIR” PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT, WESLEYAN RELIGION.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 16/11/1915, AGED 19 YEARS AND 9 MONTHS. MOBILIZED ON 15/06/1917. EX 205104 MACHINE GUN CORPS. ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 30/03/1918. POSTED TO THE 1ST EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. WOUNDED IN THE LUNG. HE WAS TAKEN PRISONER. DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 02/05/1918, IN A GERMAN FIELD HOSPITAL. SERVED IN THE ARMY FOR 2 YEARS AND 168 DAYS. UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, CATHERINE, WHO MOVED TO 6 CAUGHEY STREET, HULL .
HE IS BURIED AT KORTRIJK (ST. JAN) COMMUNAL CEMETERY. LEFT BROTHERS HAROLD, ALBERY & HARRY.
