BORN BEVERLEY 1888. SON OF SAMUEL RULE (1851-1896) & EMMA KITCHING (1854-1930), OF 34 MINSTERMOOR GATE, BEVERLEY, (CWGC ADDRESS). EMPLOYED AS A BURTON CONSTABLE HALL GARDENER. ENLISTED HULL. SERVED WITH THE 11TH EAST LANCS REGIMENT. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 23/12/1915. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 04/08/1916, AGED 28. HIS ARMY EFFECTS AND PENSION WENT TO HIS MOTHER, EMMA, WHO LATER MOVED TO EDINBURGH.

REMEMBERED ON ST JAMES CHURCH MEMORIAL, ELLERBY, EAST YORKSHIRE. HIS NAME IS ALSO RECODED ON THE BEVERLEY WW1 MEMORIAL AND THE NORWOOD STREET MEMORIAL BEVERLEY.

HIS BROTHER, WALTER RULE, SERVED AS PRIVATE, 201736, WITH THE LEICESTERSHIRE REGIMENT AND WAS DISCHARGED WOUNDED ON 21/03/1917.
