Russell, Ernest Francis

BORN MUSTON HALL, FILEY, YORKS, 1889.  SON OF HANNAH NICHOLSON (1849-1936) & THE LATE WILLIAM HUTCHINSON RUSSELL (1843-1916), AT 1, ALEXANDRA CRESCENT, ALEXANDRA ROAD, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). HE HAD TWO BROTHERS AND ONE SISTER.

HE WAS UNMARRIED. WORKED IN THE BALLIFF COUNTY COURT (1911 CENSUS) AND AS A FARM LABOURER (ARMY RECORDS). DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 6 INCHES TALL, 129 LBS WEIGHT, 33-35 INCH CHEST, FAIR PHYSICAL CONDITION, CHURCH OF ENGLAND RELIGION.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 16/11/1915. CALLED UP ON 21/03/1916. FORMERLY OF THE EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. HE TRANSFERRED TO THE 25TH WORKS BATTALION DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY. HE WAS ATTACHED TO 414TH AGRICULTURAL LABOUR CORPS, WHEN HE DIED AT BEVERLY, ON 10/02/1919, AGED 36.

BURIED AT HULL NORTHERN CEMETERY. HIS CWGC GRAVE INSCRIPTION READS, “ONE OF THE BEST THY WILL BE DONE”
