BORN HULL 1886. SON OF THE LATE WILLIAM & CAROLINE RYAN, OF 3 ARNETTS PLACE, NORTH STREET, HULL.

A REGULAR SOLDIER, LIVING WITH HIS MARRIED SISTER, JULIA WILKINSON, WHEN ON LEAVE AT 15 WILFREDS TERRACE, NORNABEL STREET, HULL.

HE MARRIED MARGARET ANN STONE, IN MANCHESTER, ON 01/12/1906. LEFT FOR FRANCE WHEN WAR BEGAN. SERVED WITH THE 1ST EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 27/10/1914, AGED 28. HIS DEATH WAS RECORDED ON HULL’S NORNABELL STREET SHRINE. Hull Daily Mail 08 November 1916. HE IS ALSO RECORDED AS KILLED ON THE OSBORNE STREET ROLL OF HONOUR (HDM 23/10/1916).

HE IS BURIED AT ERQUINGHEM-LYS CHURCHYARD EXTENSION, NORD, FRANCE.
HE WAS ONE OF THREE BROTHERS KILLED IN THE WAR. HIS BROTHERS, JOHN, AND JOSEPH RYAN, BOTH DIED IN 1917. ALL THE BROTHERS NAMES WERE LISTED ON THE TERRY STREET & THE NORNABELL STREET MEMORIAL. THEIR YOUNGEST BROTHER, GUNNER JAMES RYAN SURVIVED THE WAR.
