BORN DRYPOOL, HULL 1891. FIRST SON OF HORACE RYDER & ELIZABETH ANN BINKS OF THIS ADDRESS & 103 VICTOR STREET, HULL. SON OF A DOCKSIDE LABOURER. BROTHER TO ARTHUR AND DORIS. BEFORE THE WAR HE WORKED AS A LIGHTERMAN FOR THE NORTH EASTERN RAILWAYS. HE SERVED IN THE 8TH YORKSHIRE HUSSARS WAS KILLED BY A SNIPER, ON THE 12/12/1915, AGED 24. HE IS BURIED AT RATION FARM MILITARY CEMETERY, LA CHAPELLE-D’ARMENTIERES.
HIS BROTHER, BOMBARDIER, ARTHUR RYDER, ROYAL GARRISON ARTILLERY, DIED A WEEK LATER, OF MALARIA, IN EAST AFRICA, ON 19/12/1915, AGED 23. THEIR DEATH’S ARE REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 7TH FEBRUARY 1917 WITH THEIR PHOTOGRAPHS. *
THEIR PARENTS HAD LOST BOTH THEIR SONS IN THE WAR WITHIN A WEEK .
