HE WORKED AS A RULLYMAN (1911 CENSUS) AND AS A NIGHT SOIL COLLECTOR, AT 4 LEONARDS AVENUE, RHODES STREET, HULL (ARMY RECORDS ADDRESS). HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 10/12/1915, AGED 26 AND 2 MONTHS. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 7.5 INCHES TALL, 35.5 INCH CHEST, 136 LBS WEIGHT. ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 21/07/1916. SERVED AS PRIVATE, 22835, 7TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 20/02/1917, AGED 25. COMMEMORATED ON THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL. HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY FOR 1 YEAR AND 73 DAYS.
HIS DAUGHTER, LAURA, DIED OF PNEUMONIA, ON 24/06/1916, AGED 20 MONTHS. HIS WIDOW WAS GIVEN A WEEKLY WAR PENSION, OF 26 SHILLINGS AND 3 PENCE FOR HERSELF AND THREE DAUGHTERS, ON 03/09/1917.
