Saunders, George (alias James Burton)

Born 1892 Islington, Middlesex. Son of George Saunders, of 79, Bridport Place, Hoxton, London. A labourer, Descibed as 5 foot, 8.5 inches tall, 150 lbs weight, 37-39 inch chest, blue eyes, brown hair, tattoos on right forearm. scars on head, cheek and chest, Church of England religion.

Joined the Army before WW1, on 24/5/1914. Served in the 1st East Yorkshire Regiment. Posted to France, on 2/11/1914. Seriously wounded by gunshot to the left shoulder, on 31/3/1915. Lost complete use of arm and hand. Discharged, on 16/7/1915.  Awarded Silver War Badge (No: 499965). Died on 04/11/1918. His army effects went to his widow, Ann Burton, at 2, Fleet Street, Stepney Lane, Hull (war Pension address).
