BORN HULL 1889. HIS PARENTS WERE OF GERMAN ORIGIN, LIVING IN HULL. HE WAS WORKING AS A LABOURER AND BOARDING WITH THE CARR FAMILY AT 6, INVERNSESS BUILDINGS, HILL STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION & CWGC. ADDRESS).

HE MARRIED THE LANDLORD’S DAUGHTER, ALBERTA CARR (1892-1976), AT HULL, IN 1911. THEY HAD THREE DAUGHTERS, ELSIE KITCHENER SCHEELS (1914-1984); ALBERTA MAY AND ELSIE KITCHENER. HE WORKED AS A LABOURER.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL.POSTED ABROAD ON 03/10/1915.  SERVED AT GALLIPOLI. PROMOTED TO LANCE SERGEANT, 11142, 6TH EAST YORKSHIRE PIONEERS. HE DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 21/08/1917, AGED 27. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, ALBERTA, WHO RE-MARRIED.
HE IS BURIED AT DIVISIONAL COLLECTING POST CEMETERY AND EXTENSION, BELGIUM. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAT HE LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS”.
