BORN HULL 1894. SON OF WALTER & MARY E SCOTT. HULL. A SINGLE MAN. PRIOR TO ENLISTING HE HAD WORKED AS A FIREMAN FOR THE HULL NORTH EASTERN RAILWAYS. HE HAD BEEN IN THE SERVICE FOR OVER FOUR YEARS. TRAINED AT THE CURRAGH CAMP, DUBLIN EIGHT WEEKS AGO. RAPIDLY RISEN TO THE RANK OF SERGEANT SINCE AUGUST 1914. HE KILLED AT THE DARDENELLES, ON 16/08/1915, AGED 21. HIS NAME IS LISTED ON THE HULL GRAMMAR SCHOOL MEMORIAL.

Albert Edward Scott was born on August 8, 1894 at Sculcoates to ‘marble mason’ Walter and Mary Elizabeth Scott (nee Nicholson) of 58, Clarendon Street, Spring Bank, in Kingston upon Hull. He was christened at St Andrew, Drypool, Kingston, on August 22. In 1901 Albert and his parents, together with his sister Minnie, twelve, and brother Thomas nine, lived in 12 Clarendon Street. By 1911 the family increased by a daughter Muriel and a son Walter, and they had moved to number 58. Albert now sixteen, was working as an engine cleaner, with the ambition to one day become a train driver with the North East Railway Company. He had been in the rail service for four years. When recruiting began in earnest he enlisted in Hull and though it is not recorded if he was in any other previous regiment, he probably joined the K.O.Y.L.I. as did his colleagues from Hull John Atkinson (2494) and Waldemar Milner (2337). In the 7th Bn RMF Albert must have demonstrated great competence in a short time to have achieved the rank of Serjeant 2467. He was killed in action around the area of ‘The Pimple’ on the crest of Kiretch Tepe Sirt, above Suvla Bay on August 16, at twenty-one years of age.
