BORN HULL 1897. YOUNGEST AND DEARLY LVED SON OF JOHN JOSEPH SELF (1857-1927) & MARY JANE WHITELEY (1861-1943), OF 26, MARLBOROUGH TERRACE, HULL AND 12, HILLS TERRACE, WEST PARADE, HULL (HDM 10/10/1918). HE HAD ONE BROTHER, JOSEPH, AND ONE SISTER, BEATRICE.

EMPLOYED BY THE NORTH EASTERN RAILWAYS, AS A CLEANER. HE WORKED AT THE BOTANIC SHEDS, SPRINGBANK, HULL.

HE ENLISTED IN THE HULL RAILYWAY PALS – 17TH NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILERS. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 27/09/1918, AGED 21. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 12/10/1918. *

HIS BROTHER STOKER, JOE SELF, ROYAL NAVY, LIVED AT THE AT SAME ADDRESS. HE LEFT PARENTS, A BROTHER AND A SISTER. HIS BROTHER IN LAW SERVED IN FRANCE.
