BORN LIVERPOOL 12/02/1870. SON OF MARY ANN STOBARD & RUBEN SENISCAL. ONE OF EIGHT CHILDREN. HIS MOTHER DIED IN 1915. EDUCATED AT TRINITY HOUSE NAVIGATIONAL SCHOOL, HULL. SERVED WITH THE WILSON LINE HIS WHOLE CAREER TRADING WITH AMERICA. MARRIED AT HOLY TRINITY CHURCH ON 25/12/1895. WIFE ELLEN (JEYNES) LIVED AT 89 , COLTMAN STREET, HULL.
HE WAS SUNK ON THE S/S ‘LEPANTO’, IN MARCH 1917 & RESCUED. HE DIED AT SEA, AS MASTER OF THE S/S ‘BIRUTA’, ON 06/08/1918, AGED 48. HE LEFT A WIDOW AND DAUGHTER, ELIZABETH, BORN 8/02/1897. HE PROVIDED £230 IN HIS WILL TO HIS WIDOW AT THIS PROBATE ADDRESS. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 14/08/1918. *
HIS NAME IS LISTED ON THE TRINITY HOUSE WW1 MEMORIAL. HE IS ALSO LISTED IN THE DE RUVIGNEY ROLL OF HONOUR, VOLUME 4, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH.
Biruta SS was 1,733grt and a defensively-armed steamship built in 1889 by Palmer, Jarrow, England as the MARPESSA a British cargo steamer for J. , London. In 1911 she was renamed BIRUTA SS when purchased by P. Danneberg. On the 6 August 1918, 8 miles NW ¾ W from Calais, torpedoed or mined and sunk, 12 lives lost including Master.
