BORN HULL 1884. SON OF ROBERT SERGEANT (1856-1924) & EMMA PUCKERING, WHO LIVED MELTON, SWANLAND, NORTH FERRIBY AND LATER CLIFFE COMMON, SELBY. SON OF A RAILWAY GATEMAN AND PLATELAYER. HE HAD SIX BROTHERS AND TWO SISTERS. HIS WIFE EDITH ALICE SERGEANT & TWO CHILDREN LIVED AT 2 ST ANDREWS AVENUE, MARK STREET, (1911 CENSUS) AND THIS ADDRESS. HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED AS A DRIVER IN THE ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 23/03/1918, AGED 35. HE IS BURIED AT CHAUNY COMMUNAL CEMETERY BRITISH EXTENSION, AISNE, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “THY WILL BE DONE”.

HIS TWO BROTHERS, HERBERT & ROBERT SERGEANT, ALSO FELL & TWO OTHER BROTHERS SERVED. EDWIN SERGEANT’S DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 19TH APRIL 1918.
