WORKED AS A POSTMAN FOR 7 YEARS, IN HULL POST OFFICE. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 7 INCHES TALL, 33-35 INCH CHEST

ENLISTED HULL, ON 10/12/1915 . SERVED AS A VICKERS MACHINE GUNNER, WITH THE MACHINE GUN CORPS. DIED OF PNEUMONIA, ON 12/11/1918, AGED 21. BURIED AT ETAPLES, FRANCE. HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY FOR 2 YEARS AND 238 DAYS.

HIS BROTHER, SYDNEY SHANKS, DIED IN HULL, ON 17 July 1918, AGED 19. ANOTHER, GUNNER, ALBERT EDWARD SHANKS, 14869, ROYAL GARRISON ARTILLERY, WAS WOUNDED AND DIED 13/02/1921, AGED 29. (SILVER BADGE NO:14869)
