BORN HULL 1895. ELDEST SON OF GEORGE & ELIZABETH SHERBURN, WHO LOST TWO SONS IN THE WAR. PRIOR TO THE WAR JOHN WORKED AT THE HULL CO-OP SHOP ON NEW BRIDGE ROAD, HULL.

HE SERVED WITH THE 6TH EAST YORKSHIRE PIONEERS. HE DIED IN ALEXANDRIA, ON 29/08/1915, OF WOUNDS RECEIVED AT THE DARDENELLES. HE WAS 20 YEARS OLD. HIS PHOTOGRAPH APPEARED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 9TH SEPTEMBER 1915, AND WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH IN THE HULL TIMES, ON THE 11TH SEPTEMBER 1915. *
JOHN’S BROTHER GEORGE WAS LATER KILLED IN 1917. THEIR AUNTIE, MRS MCLEOD LIVED AT 61 BELMONT STREET, HULL.
