Born Hull. 1887. A habitual criminal. He was convicted of assault and at Wakefield HM Prison, for six months in 1908. He was also imprisoned for stealing on 24th January 1911 and 29 January 1913. Received another 4 months for stealing, on 22nd April 1914
He worked as a Labourer and Flower seller. He resided with his wife, Ellen Brady, at 5, Arthurs Terrace, Waterloo Street, Hull (Army Address). He was 5 foot, 1 inch tall, 34-36 inch chest.
He enlisted in Hull, on 17th April 1915. Served in the 3rd Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. Wounded by a shell in the forearm, at Hooge, Blegium, on 4th August 1915. Discharged on 20th March 1916. Awarded the Silver War Badge (No: 83868). He lived at 14, Providence Row, Beverley Road, Hull.
Died of Influenza/Pneumonia on 22/10/1918, aged 31. (No CWGC records).
His next of kin was his brother, William Sherwood, at Fleet Street, Stepney Lane, Hull (war pension address). His army effects were left to his sister, Ada Jacques.
