BORN HULL 1887. SON OF HENRY SIDDLE AND SARAH ELIZABETH BAXTER. ONE OF TEN CHILDREN. ENLISTED HULL. MARRIED 1912. WIFE KATE (HAYES) LIVED AT 3 PRINCES WALK, CRAVEN STREET, HULL AND 2 WESTBOURNE AVENUE, GLOUCESTER STREET, GIPSYVILLE (HDM ADDRESS 30/08/1916). THEY HAD A SON NAMED REGINALD (1914-1882). HE SERVED AS A COOK ON THE WILSON LINER “AARO”. PRESUMED DROWNED ON 01/08/1916, AGED 29.

HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON HULL’S MERCHANT NAVY ROLL OF HONOUR. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH, ON 13TH SEPTEMBER 1916.*

The British cargo/passenger vessel S/S Aaro was sunk on 1st August 1916, by the German submarine U-20 (Walther Schwieger), 25 miles SW of Stavanger. Aaro was on her way from Hull to Christiania. There were 3 casualties.
