Joseph Hewitt Skelton

Born Newcastle Upon Tyne, Northumberland, 1884. Son of Joseph Ratcliffe Skelton (1861-1927) and Mary Jane Lamb (1860-1897). he had two brothers and two sisters.

Married on 20 Nov 1905, at St Silas Church Hull. Husband of Sylvia Hair, at 8, Warnford Terrace, Stanley Street, Hull (1911 Census); 4, Sunny Grove, Sharp Street, Hull (Army Address) and 105a West Parade, Spring Bank, Hull (War pension address). They had three sons, Arthur Rennison Skelton; Walter Fenwick Skelton, and William Henry Skelton. He was a Manufacturer’s Clerk and Insurance Agent. Described as 5 foot, 5.5 inches tall, 35-37.5 inch chest, “Very Good” character.

He enlisted on 17 Feb 1915, aged 30.  Served with the Royal Army Medical Corps. Posted to Egypt on 3 July 1915. Served in India from 4 July 1916. Returned to England on 26 Sept 1918. Served for 4 years and 76 days.

Discaharged with Neurasthenia (30% Disability), on 2nd May 1919. Awarded the Silver War Badge (No: B219399)

Died at Hull, on 06/05/1925, aged 40
