Skevington, George Ernest

BORN BROUGH, YORKS 1887. SON OF CHARLES WILLIAM SKEVINGTON (1857-1937) & ANNIE MOISLEY (1861-1938), OF 1 BOSWELL AVENUE, FOUNTAIN ROAD, HULL.  ONE OF TEN CHILDREN. SEVERAL DIED IN INFANCY. EMPLOYED AS AN ASSISTANT AT A PROFESSIONAL GOLF CLUB IN ELLOUGHTON. HE ENLISTED IN DEWSBURY. FORMERLY, PRIVATE, 15586, ARMY CYCLIST CORPS. TRANSFERRED AS PRIVATE, 57660, 18TH KING’S LIVERPOOL REGIMENT. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 20/06/1917, AGED 30.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 06/11/1918. HE IS BURIED IN BELGIUM, AT THE RAILWAY DUGOUTS BURIAL GROUND (TRANSPORT FARM). HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “THEIR GLORY SHALL NOT BE BLOTTED OUT”

HIS YOUNGER BROTHER, 2ND LIEUTENANT, WILLIAM PERCY SKEVINGTON, 11THE EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, ‘B’ COMPANY, WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 08/09/1918, AGED 27. TWO SONS, LOST IN THE SPACE OF A YEAR.
