EMPLOYED AS A NER ENGINE CLEANER. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT 1 INCHES TALL, 108 LBS WEIGHT AND 34 INCH CHEST. ENLISTED HULL, 28/02/1916. SERVED IN FRANCE FROM 18/11/1916. RECEIVED A GUNSHOT WOUND TO HIS LEFT ARM ON 24/04/1917 AND AGAIN ON 04/10/1917. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 21/03/1918, AGED 20, DURING THE GERMAN SPRING OFFENSIVE. HE HAD SERVED 2 YEARS AND 32 DAYS. UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, WHO BECAME ALICE CUTSFORTH
