Born 03 Jun 1887 • Hull. Son of Henry Smith (1840-1910) and Annetta Johnson (1850-1910).
Married Florence Annie Scurr(1885-1932), on 25 Nov 1910 • Hull Register Offices, Hull. He was a Labourer (Fish Dock) for the East Coast Steam Fishing Company.
He had two children, Ida and Charles Edward Johnson. Lived at 10, Kennett Grove, Gillett Street, Hull (War pension address).
Enlisted on 21 Nov 1914. Served in the 13Th East Yorkshire Regiment, in Egypt and France. promoted to Sergeant.
Discharged on 23 Jan 1919, aged 31. Awarded the Silver War Badge (No: B97283). Died at Hull, on 07/05/1928, aged 41.
His son Charles Edward Johnson Smith served in the Merchant Navy and died in WW2 – lost at sea on the s/s “Newlands” (Hull), 26th March 1945, aged 21. He is commemorated on the Tower Hill Naval Memorial, London.
