Born West Heslerton, Malton, Yorkshire, 1899. Son of George Robert Smith and Amy Smith, of West Heslerton, Malton, Yorks. Eldest of three sons.
He enlisted in Hull. Formerly 54628, East Yorks Regiment. Transferred to the 21st Manchester Regiment. Killed in action, on 19/10/1918, aged 19.
