BORN HULL 1884. SON OF JOHN & CLARA SMITH. WIFE FLORENCE SMITH, LIVED AT 13 OCKLEY TERRACE, WEST PARADE, HULL AND 82 CLARENDON STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). EMPLOYED AS A PAINT DRUM MAKER. HE WORKED 16 YEARS FOR MESSRS. METCALFE, OF CHAPEL LANE, HULL.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. EX 85425, ROYAL HORSE ARTILLEY AND RFA. TRANSFERRED TO THE CAMERONIAN SCOTTISH RIFLES. HE HAD BEEN WOUNDED AND RETURNED HOME BEFORE. HE WENT BACK TO FRANCE. WOUNDED AGAIN. HE DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 07/06/1916, AGED 32. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE LOOS MEMORIAL.
HE LEFT A WIDOW AND DAUGHTER, EUNICE (11/09/1909). ALSO BROTHERS, HAROLD AND FREDERICK W. SMITH AND OLDER SISTER ALICE.
