THE FAMILY LIVED AT THIRTLEBY, HOLDERNESS IN 1911. EMPLOYED AS AN APPRENTICE STEAM FITTER, AT GOOD & MENZIES ENGINEERING LTD, LOCKWOOD STREET.

CALLED UP FOR SERVICE ON 03/11/1916. AT HIS PARENTS REQUEST, POSTED TO THE ARMY SERVICE CORPS TO CONTINUE HIS ENGINEERING APPRENTICESHIP. ENLISTED GROVE PARK, LONDON. EX M2/229820, RASC. TRAINED AT THE CURRAGH, IRELAND. TRANSFERRED TO THE CHESHIRE REGIMENT 19/09/1917 IN FRANCE. KILLED IN ACTION ON 22/10/1917, AGED 19. COMMEMORATED AT THE TYNE COT MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING. HIS WIDOWED MOTHER LATER MOVED TO 70 WASSAND STREET, HESSLE ROAD. HIS NAME IS LISTED ON THE LOCKWOOD STREET MEMORIAL.
