Smith, Sydney

Born Hull, 1895. Son of George Henry Freeman Smith and Minnie Smith, of 16, Bean Street, Hull (War Pension address). A Ship building Plater.

He enlisted in Hull, on 05/10/1914, aged 19 and 7 months. Served with the 3rd EYR. Trained at Dalton Holme, Ripon and Salisbury Camps. Transferred as Private 12/945, 12th EYR. He experienced a “strong Emotional Shock”, while home on leave, during the Hull Air Raid on 6th June 1915. Discharged with Melancholy and permanently unfit, on 04/08/1916. Committed to Willerby Sanatorium. Died on 30/12/1918, aged 23. He had served in the army for 1 year and 303 days.
