BORN HULL 20/09/1883. SON OF JOHN AND HANNAH MARY SMITH. HE HAD AN OLDER BROTHER, HENRY WILLIAM SMITH (1879-1950), WHO LIVED AT 49 GLASGOW STREET, HULL.

HE MARRIED AT HULL, IN 1907. HIS WIFE, FANNY ELIZABETH HODGSON (1882-1965) AND FOUR CHILDREN, THOMAS, WALTER, ALBERT AND ELIZABETH, LIVED AT, OF 5 WILLIAMS TERRACE, WALCOTT STREET, HULL (1918 ABSENT VOTERS). HE WAS A LABOURER AND HAD A TATTOO OF HIS WIFE’S NAME ON HIS RIGHT ARM.

HE ENLISTED AT HULL, ON 16/11/1914. SERVED AS PRIVATE, 13/231,  “A” COMPANY, 3RD EYR, IN INDIA FROM 20/02/1916. RETURNED HOME ON 12/07/1918. DIED OF CEREBRAL HAEMORRHAGE. BURIED IN HULL WESTERN CEMETERY.

HIS WIDOW AS AWARDED A WEEKLY PENSION OF 33 SHILLINGS AND 9 PENCE, FOR HERSELF AND FOUR CHILDREN AT THIS WAR PENSION ADDRESS.
