BORN HULL 1892. SON OF ARTHUR JOHN SMITH (1860-1934) AND THE LATE MARGARET HANNAH WATSON (1865-1919), AT 116 BRUNSWICK AVENUE, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). HIS FATHER WAS A MAST AND BLOCK MAKER. HE HAD THREE BROTHERS AND TWO SISTERS. A FORMER LAUNDRY DRESSER.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL, KILLED IN ACTION ON 16/03/1915, AGED 23. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE KINGS HALL CHURCH MEMORIAL, SYMONST ST. HIS BROTHER LAWRENCE SMITH, 12TH EYR, WAS KILLED ON, 31/07/1917, AGED 20. UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO BOTH PARENTS. HE LEFT BROTHERS, HERBERT AND HORACE AND SISTERS, GERTRUDE AND ELSIE, AT 116 BRUNSWICK AVENUE.

HE IS BURIED AT CITE BONJEAN MILITARY CEMETERY, ARMENTIERES, NORD, FRANCE.

HIS BROTHER, PRIVATE, LAWRENCE SMITH, 21539, 12TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 31/07/1917, AGED 20. BURIED TORNAI COMMUNAL CEMETERY, BELGIUM.
