Born Huggate, Yorkshire, 1877. Fifth Son of George and Hannah Snowden. Son of a General Labourer from Pocklington.
He married at St Judes Church, Hull, on 9 Sep 1901. Husband of Lavinia Atkinson, at 8, Railway Houses, Londesbrough Street, Hull (Army address) and 8, Waltham Terrace, Norwood Street, Hull (War Pension address). They had two children, Gwendoline & John.
He worked as an Iron Moulder, in North Street, Anlaby (1911 Census). resided in Hull. Described as 5 foot 8 inches tall, 38-40 inch chest, Church of England Religion, “Good” character.
He enlisted at Beverley, on 12 March 1917, aged 39 and 11 months. Served overseas in the Labour Corps, Non Combatant Corps, and Lincolnshire Regiment. Invalided to the Lord Derby Hospital, Warrington. Discharged from the army as unfit, on 24 Aug 1918. Awarded the Silver War Badge (No: 440000). Died on 22/11/1918, aged 42.
Commemorated on the family grave at Saint Mary’s Churchyard, Huggate, East yorkshire.
