BORN MIDDLETON ON THE WOLDS, DRIFFIELD, 1897. ELDEST SON OF DAVID BRADLEY SOANES (1859-1960) AND ETHEL FRANCES HODGSON (1871-1951), OF MIDDLETON ON THE WOLDS, DRIFFIELD. SON OF A SAND MERCHANT. HE HAD ONE YOUNGER BROTHER, CALLED ROY WHO WAS 13 YEARS HIS JUNIOR.

ENLISTED DRIFFIELD. FORMERLY, PRIVATE, 2622, YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. TRANSFERRED TO THE 4TH YORK AND LANCASTER REGIMENT. KILLED IN ACTION ON 09/10/1917, AGED 20.

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, ETHEL. HIS FATHER LIVED TO BE 100 TEARS OLD.

HIS NAME IS LISTED ON BEVERLEY MEMORIAL HALL ROLL OF HONOUR AND THE LUND MEMORIAL BOARD.
