BORN BARKING, ESSEX 1857. SON OF THE LATE WILLIAM & CELIA SOARDS. ONE OF FOUR SONS. HE HAD BEEN AT SEA SINCE HE WAS 14 YEARS OLD. HE MARRIED ON 24/07/1879, AT TOWER HAMLETS, LONDON. HIS WIFE FRANCIS ELLEN COOPER (1861-1936) LIVED AT 60B NEW KENT ROAD, SURREY AND THIS ADDRESS. HE WAS SKIPPER OF THE HULL TRAWLER, “ARGYLL”, LOST AT SEA, ON 15/06/1915. HIS NAME IS RECORDED IN THE LOST TRAWLERMEN OF HULL RECORDS. HE LEFT £275 IN HIS WILL TO HIS WIDOW, FRANCES.

FV Argyll was mined 12 miles ESE of Harwich on the 15th June 1915 by German submarine UC-11 (Walter Gottfried Schmidt)
