BORN HULL 26/04/1892. SON OF SAMUEL SPENCER & THE LATE ALICE ROYAL (1862-1907), OF 1 JENNET GROVE, GILLETT STREET, HESSLE ROAD, HULL. HE HAD THREE BROTHERS AND THREE SISTERS. HIS SISTER MRS SARAH FYSON LIVED AT 6 DEVON AVENUE, GILLETT STREET, HULL. HE WAS A FIREMAN IN SAWMILL. LOST ON THE MINESWEEPER “COLUMBIA”, 01/05/1915, AGED 23. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON CHATHAM NAVAL MEMORIAL. HIS BROTHER JAMES EDWARD SPENCER, 12TH KRRC, WAS KILLED ON 08/08/1916, AGED 32.

On May 1st, 1915, the British iron minesweeper COLUMBIA, built in 1887 by Matthew Pearse & Co.
