BORN MANCHESTER 1880. SON OF JAMES SPOONER (1857-1909) & HONORA JANE BROMLEY (1859-1941), OF KENT STREET, HOLDERNESS ROAD. HE HAD FOUR BROTHERS AND FOUR SISTERS. EMPLOYED AS A POSTMAN. HE MARRIED, AT HULL, IN 1908. HIS WIFE, LOUISA MAUD SHAW (1886-1979) AND DAUGHTER CONSTANCE, LIVED AT 12 VINE TERRACE, BARNSLEY STREET, HULL.

ENLISTED HULL. SERVED AS A CORPORAL, IN THE 6TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. LEFT ENGLAND ON 14/07/1915. KILLED IN ACTION AT GALLIPOLI, 09/08/1915, AGED 35. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE HELLES MEMORIAL, GALLIPOLI, TURKEY.

HIS BROTHER, PRIVATE, THOMAS HENRY SPOONER, 6768, 2ND YORK AND LANCASTER REGIMENT, WAS KILLED AT YPRES, ON 02/08/1915, AGED 32. HE WAS MARRIED WITH THREE CHILDREN.

ANOTHER BROTHER, ALFRED JOHN SPOONER WAS ALSO KILLED AT GALLIPOLI, IN 1915.
