IT SEEMS MILITARY DISCIPLINE DID NOT AGREE WITH HIM. ON 8/3/1915 WILLIAM WAS DETAINED FOR 42 DAYS FOR STRIKING HIS SUPERIOR OFFICER, BUT RETURNED TO DUTY AFTER 7 DAYS FOR GOOD CONDUCT. HE ARRIVED FRANCE ON 7/5/1916 TO JOIN THE 13TH EYR. ON 31/1/1916, HE WAS DEPRIVED OF 10 DAYS PAY FOR BEING DRUNK. ON THE 19/6/1916 DEPRIVED OF ANOTHER 14 DAYS PAY FOR BEING DRUNK AND BREAKING OUT OF CAMP. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION ON THE SOMME, 13/11/1916. HE UNMARRIED WHEN HE ENLISTED BUT AT SOME STAGE MARRIED EMILY AT THIS ADDRESS.
