Born Cherry Burton, East Yorkshire, 09/03/1895. Youngest child of Thomas and Emma Starkey, of Cherry Burton. He had two brother, Thomas and Arthur and two sisters, Ellen and Sarah. Worked as Farm lad in Lockington, Beverley (1911 Census). His army records describe him as 5 foot, 6 inches tall, 107 lbs weight, 33-34 inch chest

Enlisted at Beverley, on 03/12/1914. Served as a Rifleman, in the King’s Royal Rifle Corps, 4th Bn. He was killed in action, on 11/05/1915, aged 20.
