BORN KIRK ELLA 1896. SECOND SON OF NEVILLE STEPHENSON (1865-1945) & MARY JANE BURGESS (1865-1949), OF WILLERBY, HULL. EDUCATED AT HULL GRAMMAR SCHOOL. HE WORKED AS A BRICKLAYER FOR HIS FATHER, WHO WAS A BUILDING CONTRACTOR. HE LIVED AT 194, COLTMAN STREET, HULL

HE ENLISTED AT HULL. SERVED WITH THE ROYAL ENGINEERS, 128TH FIELD COMPANY. DIED OF WOUNDS AT BOULONGE HOSPITAL ,ON 05/09/1917, AGED 21. HE LEFT £118 IN HIS WILL TO HIS FATHER.

HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON THE ST MATTHEWS CHURCH WAR MEMORIAL, BOULEVARD, HULL, & THE HULL GRAMMAR SCHOOL ROLL OF HONOUR. CYRIL IS BURIED AT WIMEREUX COMMUNAL CEMETERY, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “OF WILLERBY, HULL”.
HIS OLDER BROTHER, PRIVATE, NEVIILE ARTHUR STEPHENSON, 1/4TH EYR, DIED AT HOME, ON 11/02/1916, AGED 23. HIS NAME IS ALSO INSCRIBED WITH HIS BROTHER, ON THE KIRKELLA WAR MEMORIAL AT ST ANDREWS’ CHURCH. BOTH BROTHERS WERE UNMARRIED. THEY LEFT TWO YOUNGER SISTERS, GWENDOLINE AND DOROTHY.
