Stickney, William Peter

Born 23 Feb 1887 • Hull. Son of William Peter Stickney (1855-1906) and Emma Harrison. He was a Jeweller living in West St Alford Lincs (1911 Census). Described as 5 foot, 7.5 inches tall, 35-37.5 inch chest, good vision and good physical development.

Married 19 Apr 1908 • Hull, aged 21. Husband of Gertrude Stella Brewer (born 13/4/1885 – 1964), of 20, Lonsdale Street, Anlaby Road, Hull (War Pension address). They had three children. William, Anita and their youngest, Eric, died in 1915.

He enlisted at Belper, on 19/10/1914. Promoted to Lance Sergeant, in 1915. Served in the 2/5th Sherwood Foresters. Died on 26/03/1916, of a Cerebral Haemorrhage, caused by active service. His army papers suggest that he did not serve overseas, There are also no CWGC records of his death.

Note: His Surname is variously spelt – Stickley in War Pension Records, Stickney in his army records. Other variations include Stakley, Stockley etc
