HE EMIGRATED TO CANADA. WORKING AS A CAR CLEANER, AND LIVING WITH HIS SISTER AT MRS M.E. LANDEN, AT 24, SMITHFIELD AVENUE.

HE ENLISTED AT WINNIPEG, ON 21/06/1915. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 7 INCHESTALL, 36-39 INCH CHEST,130 LBS WEIGHT, BLUE EYES, FAIR HAIR. SERVED IN THE 43RD CANADIAN (MANITOBA) REGIMENT. ARRIVED AT SHORNECLIFFE, KENT, ON 05/09/1915. LEFT FOR FRANCE, ON 20/02/1916. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 06/06/1916, AGED 27. HE IS BURIED IN BELGIUM.

HIS ADDRESS AND DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 16/06/1916.

HIS BROTHER, PRIVATE, ALBERT STOKES, COLDSTREAM GUARDS, WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 22/12/1914, AGED JUST 17. HDM ADDRESS 16/06/1916.
