BORN EDINGBUGH 09/10/1889. ONLY SON OF THE LATE JOHN STRACHAN (1850-1904), & ISABELLA HOLLOWAY (FORMERLY STRACHAN), OF 21 NEWTON STREET, BOULEVARD, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). HE ENLISTED IN CANADA. ARRIVED IN ENGLAND WITH THE 2ND CANADIAN EXPEDITIONARY FORCE. POSTED TO FRANCE, WITH THE COLUMBIA MOUNTED RIFLES. HE WAS KILLED ON THE SOMME, NEAR MAUQUET FARM, ON 13/09/1916, AGED 26. HIS BODY WAS NEVER FOUND AND HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE VIMY MEMORIAL, FRANCE.
HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOWED MOTHER. HE ALSO LEFT THREE SISTERS.
