BORN HULL 1891. SON OF WILLIAM SUDDABY (1856-1910) & THIRZA SMITH (1858-1931), AT 4 WALTERS TERRACE, CRAVEN STREET, HEDON ROAD, HULL & 17 WELTON TERRACE, COURTNEY STREET, HULL. A CEMENT WORKER. HE MARRIED ELSIE ALLISON HUDSON (1896-1990), AT ST ANDREWS CHURCH, IN HULL, ON 14/07/1914. THEY LIVED AR AT 15 BOXWOOD AVENUE, LEE SMITH STREET , HEDON ROAD AND THIS CWGC ADDRESS, WITH THREE CHILDREN.
HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 12/12/1915, AGED 24 YEARS AND 2 MONTHS. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 1 INCH TALL, 35 INCH CHEST, 112 LBS WEIGHT, WITH AN ANCHOR TATTOO ON HIS RIGHT HAND, CHURCH OF ENGLAND RELIGION. HE LEFT FOLKESTONE FOR BOULOGNE AND ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 10/01/1917. HE SERVED WITH THE 7TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 19/04/1917, AGED 26. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE ARRAS MEMORIAL. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, ELSIE, WHO MOVED TO 2 WILLIAM TERRACE, WOODHOUSE STREET HULL. SHE WAS AWARDED A WEEKLY PENSION OF 25 SHILLINGS AND 7 PENCE FOR HERSELF AND HER THREE CHILDREN. THEIR YOUNGEST SON HAROLD BORN IN 1917 DIED IN 1918.
HE LEFT MARRIED A BROTHER, WILFRED SUDDABY, WHO HAD 5 CHILDREN AND SISTER ANNIE. HIS OTHER BROTHER PRIVATE, 4813, ALFRED SUDDABY, 1/4TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 02/08/1916, AGED 20.
