Born Goole, 1893. Son of John William Sutherby (1863-1943) and Mary Elizabeth Drax, of 24 Phoenix Street Goole. He had four brothers and four sisters. A Crane Driver (1911 Census) He Enlisted at Goole. Served with the 6th King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. Died of wounds, 02/03/1916. Buried Beauval Communal Cemetery, Somme, France. His army effects were left to his father, John William Sutherby.
His name is recorded on the the Hull Gardener’s Society ww1 Memorial at Hull Minster.
His brother, Thomas William Sutherby, served with the Merchant Navy.
