Born Hull, 1886. Son of Marion Simpson Swales, of 7, Clyde Terrace, Bean street, Hull (1911 census) and 12, Cranbourne Terrace, Regent Street, Hull (War Pension address)

A bricklayer and Dock Labourer. Described as 5 foot, 5.5 inches tall, 38.5-40 inch chest.

He had served in the Royal Garrison Artillery, for six months. Enlisted at Hull, on 12th December 1914. His army address was 9, Joshua Avenue, Madeley Street, Hull. Served with the 12th East Yorkshire regiment (Hull Pals). Discharged on 20th February 1915, with breathlessness, general weakness and varicose veins. Died on 02/10/1917, aged 31.
