ENLISTED BEVERLEY, AND MOBILIZED ON 18/02/1916. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 10.5 INCHES TALL, 37.5 INCH CHEST, 156 LBS WEIGHT. ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 09/07/1916. SERVED IN THE 8TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 04/11/1916, AGED 23. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER. THEY INCLUDED A SILVER WRIST WATCH, COIN, DIARY, LETTERS, PHOTOS, NOTE  BOOK AND WALLET. UNMARRIED. HE LEFT A SISTER PHYLLIS MARY SWIFT.

HE IS BURIED AT THE EUSTON ROAD CEMETERY, SOMME, FRANCE
