


Born Scawby, Lincolnshire 1892. Son of Thomas and Mary Elizabeth Thompson, of Scawby Brook, Brigg, Lincs. He had three brother and two sisters.
PC, 496, Arthur Thompson was a Hull Policeman, joining on 03/06/1912 and working at the Norfolk Street, Division. He enlisted in the Coldstream Guards, on 06/05/1915, and saw much action in France. In June 1916, he was recommended for a commission in the field and transferred as Second Lieutenant, in the 24th Northumberland Fusiliers (1st Tyneside Irish). He was killed in action, on 23/10/1917, aged 26. He was a man of high character and intelligence and was highly respected by all his comrades.
His death was reported in the Hull Daily Mail, on 14/12/1917. He is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium.
He is commemorated on the Hull City Police Force Memorial Plaque, Priory Road Police station, Hull, unveiled on 21st January 1923.
His brother, Private, George Wilkinson Thompson, 12293, 8th Lincolnshire Regiment, was killed at Loos, on 26/09/1915, aged 20.
